Maths Tutor · Fleet, Hampshire · In person & online
Maths doesn't have to feel impossible.
I help secondary school students — including those who are anxious about maths, or who learn differently — find their confidence and actually enjoy the subject.
From satellites to students
I started out as a Mechanical Engineering graduate, went on to work as a Satellite Design Engineer — including on SOHO, a spacecraft studying the Sun — and then made the leap into tutoring after becoming a parent. That was over 15 years ago, and I haven’t looked back.
My engineering background gives me a genuinely different perspective on maths: I know what it’s actually used for, and I love sharing that with students who’ve never seen the point of it.
When I’m not tutoring, I volunteer for a tornado and storm research organisation as a storm damage surveyor — a reminder that maths and science are alive in the world around us every single day…
I work from my home in Fleet, which is well-stocked with resources, games, and everything needed to make sessions varied and engaging. I also offer online tuition for students — whether you’re outside the local area or simply find it more convenient.

Who I work with
You're in the right place if these apply…
Maths Anxiety
Maths anxiety is real and very common. I specialise in rebuilding confidence gently and at the student's own pace.
GCSE preparation
Whether targeting a pass or pushing for the top grades, I'll meet your child where they are and build from there.
Gifted & ambitious students
Some students need to be stretched beyond the classroom. I love working with high achieving students who want to be challenged and pushed further.
Neurodiverse learners
I have experience with students who have autism, ADHD and other learning differences, and adapt my approach accordingly.
What families say
In their own words
“What immediately stood out about Sarah is that she doesn’t simply teach maths… The result is that concepts which once felt confusing suddenly become logical and manageable… She creates an environment where it’s safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and genuinely understand the subject… I cannot recommend Sarah highly enough.”
— Parent of E & O
“Thank you so much for all the help and support you have given to O with his maths. It has made such a difference, not only with his progress, but his confidence too. We are so glad we found you.”
— Parent of Of O
“Thank you for the time and effort tutoring me. It’s really helped me to have both ability and confidence in my skills and exam technique. Also a big thank you for a fun and welcoming environment.”
— A former student
