I have been a maths tutor in the local community for over ten years, working with students of all abilities. I have experience with students who have autism and other neuro-diverse conditions.
I specialise in anxious students.
I started my career by doing a degree in Mechanical Engineering – a combination of maths and physics that still serves me well. I was fascinated by all things ‘Space’ as a teenager and followed that path to work as a Satellite Design Engineer. I had chance to work on some really interesting Satellites, including my favourite – SOHO (external link)
I had a career break and became a parent, with that came a change in career path. I have worked in a local school. Tutoring is a passion of mine. I believe it is really important to break down the fear of maths that many people have and to make it a subject that is accessible for all.
I use a variety of tools and techniques, including practical demonstrations, games and technology. I like it when my students leave the house at the end of a lesson saying ‘I like maths now!’ or ‘That was interesting!’ Maths is such a rich and diverse subject, but sadly too often people don’t get the opportunity to see that and I want to change that.
